Expected Wedding Decor Trends for 2022

Updated 12/09/2021

Although some wedding elements stay classic, each year some trends are on their way out and some on their way in. Not everyone agrees, but here are a few expected wedding decor trends for 2022.

Outdoor and Tented Weddings

Due to safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, couples may continue holding weddings outdoors in 2022, making tented weddings a trend for the year. With the right decor, you can make these weddings quite elegant. Some couples are using living room decor, such as couches, pillows, and throws.

Color Trends

A move away from white and toward brighter colors is one of the wedding decor trends for 2022. Expect to see a wide variety of colors, including blues, silver sage, earth tones, gold and other metallics, coral, mauve, mint, peach, ivory, green, marigold, dusty rose, chartreuse, and red. Many couples opt for neutrals with pops of brighter color, although dark color palettes are also becoming more common. Some couples are also embracing monochrome decor.

Trends in Flowers, Greenery, and Other Plants

Although people still enjoy using greenery, arrangements with greenery and white flowers are becoming less common. Greenery, including succulents, eucalyptus, and ferns, will likely still play a role, however. Expect to see dried and faux flowers a lot more often. Because of the trend toward greener, more sustainable weddings, couples are more like to opt for local flowers and repurpose the flowers from the ceremony in the reception decorations. Potted plants provide another sustainable option. Arrangements will often be designed without the use of floral foam, which is bad for the environment. Smaller arrangements of flowers in similar colors are also predicted to be popular in 2022, at least in part due to shortages in flowers.

Trends in Seating and Table Decor

Couples are opting for sentimental table decor. They also often try to be more eco-friendly and choose linens instead of disposable tablecloths. Couples sometimes use vintage furniture embracing the idea of something old.

Lighting and Other Decor Trends

Mood lighting is also becoming very trendy. Colored candles in hurricane lamps are making an appearance more often. Hanging installations, neon installations, chandeliers, tube lighting, fairy lights, and lanterns can all help set the mood once it gets dark. Besides lighting, experts expect balloon decor, clear acrylic decor, and metallic decor to be popular. Floral moon gates and ceremony arches made from birch or metal may also be trending in 2022.
